Quiet Elegance
Hartzell House, a casually luxurious 6000sf B&B, is a handsome example of Carpenter Gothic Victorian architecture, comfortably appointed with furnishings designed to pamper the discerning guest. Built c1870 by Judson Hartzell, the original structure has been carefully renovated and expanded to retain the flavor of the era while enhancing the measure of environmental comfort.
The historic West-wing holds three restful guest rooms, all well appointed with comfortable, high quality beds and fine linens. These rooms are uniquely decorated with specialty finishes, original art, and antiques. Downstairs you will find a well stocked library and business center, a private dining room and kitchenette with plenty of snacks and drinks available at will.

The spacious parlor is well appointed with plush upholstered seating, unusual antiques, and original artwork and ceramics; a peaceful room in which to enjoy the company of friends or relax in quiet contemplation by the fireside. Hidden in a discrete cabinet made from the original interior shutters is a media center, and over 100 videos and DVDs of various venues are available for your viewing. Or just sit back and enjoy the artistic, naturally inspired vignettes that encompass the room.

The East Wing, built in 2005, has a distinct flair of its own. While blending quite nicely with the original 1870 structure, it gives a nod to the Craftsman era with its Bungalow inspired interiors. The spacious, main level common area has built-in bookcases filled with a variety of reading material and DVDs. The furniture has a masculine vibe; a roomy leather sofa and chair, two cozy armchairs that flank the gas fireplace, a large satellite TV, and a tall, pub-style table that waits to accommodate a spirited game of skill or chance. On this level you will find a small kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator, and microwave for guest convenience, and cupboards stocked with hot and cold beverages and snacks.

The east wing connects to the greatroom through our airy sunroom ( a winter jungle, as we shelter our potted Tropicals and an eleven foot tall Ficus tree here during the ski-season), a perfect spot to sit and read, or wander out onto the deck that overlooks our backyard or dine outdoors in our cozy courtyard.
