The beauty of the Southern Laurel Highlands sometimes obscures the fact that this tri-state region is packed full of a wide variety of things to do and see. From Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd-Wright’s iconic house over the waterfall, to Historic Fort Necessity where the French and Indian War began, the culture and history within Western PA and the surrounding region will surprise. Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, just 15 minutes from Hartzell House Bed & Breakfast, has 2000 acres of entertainment and activities to delight both men and women, including an expansive, private art collection, a world-class spa and holistic center, and a “toy store” filled with vintage automobiles that would cause Jay Leno’s eyes to turn green. The resort also hosts Lautrec – one of only a handful of Forbes 5-diamond, 5-star restaurants worldwide, and three PGA golf courses, one of which is a newly designed Pete Dye.
Ohiopyle State Park has some of the best whitewater rafting on this side of the country, and a nationally renowned bike trail, the Great Allegheny Passage, which runs from Pittsburgh Point Park all the way to Washington, DC. There are miles of mountain bike, snowmobile and hiking trails that take visitors through some of the prettiest scenery in the state.
Hartzell House Bed & Breakfast sits in between the Wisp Ski Resort in Deep Creek Lake, MD, and Seven Springs Resort, in Champion, PA, and is surrounded by miles of XC ski trails.
