Lately, hosting celebrations at Hartzell House has made me think differently about what makes a gathering memorable.
Not long ago, we hosted a 90th birthday celebration.
Generations of family and friends gathered around one person and one life. They told stories. They shared memories. They talked about the ways this person had impacted their lives.Standing there watching it, I kept thinking about the imprints we leave on one another’s lives.
A celebration gives us a reason to stop long enough to notice those connections.
And then we’ve hosted weddings.
A wedding is the beginning of something new. A 90th birthday is a chance to look back at a life already filled with stories.But I’ve realized they have something important in common:
The people in the room matter.
And maybe a wedding doesn’t have to be so big that you barely have time to talk to the people who came to celebrate with you.
Maybe there’s another way.
Beautiful flowers. Vintage glassware. Cake. A glass of champagne. Music that creates an atmosphere rather than taking over the room.
And food that invites people to gather.
A beautiful charcuterie-style grazing celebration gives people the freedom to eat, talk, move around, come back for more and simply enjoy being together.
Less time worrying about what’s supposed to happen next.
More time noticing who is there.
And when everyone else goes home, your wedding doesn’t have to be over.

We’re now planning a limited number of intimate wedding weekends at Hartzell House for 2027—giving couples the opportunity to gather, celebrate, and actually spend time with the people they invited.
$10,000 | Wedding celebration for up to 25 guests
Your wedding weekend includes:
- Two nights at Hartzell House for up to 14 overnight guests
- Breakfast both mornings for overnight guests
- Wedding celebration for up to 25 guests
- Charcuterie-style grazing reception
- Wedding cakes and desserts
- Seasonal flowers
- Vintage glassware
- Champagne toast
- Non-alcoholic beverages
- Styling and tablescape
- Setup and cleanup
- Hartzell House staff throughout the celebration
- Housekeeping
Prefer a different dining experience? Other food and dinner options can be customized for an additional cost.
Hartzell House can accommodate wedding celebrations of up to 50 guests. Guests beyond the 25 included in the package are $75 per person, and additional lodging is available nearby.
But what we’re really creating isn’t a package.
