Summer at Hartzell House

Summer at Hartzell House The bees have arrived, the table is set, and the gap trail is calling.

There’s a particular kind of summer happening here right now.

Not the rushed kind. Not the packed-schedule kind.

The kind where you look up and realize — something good is quietly unfolding all around you.

The Bees Are Here

Robert has been moving toward this for a long time.

The equipment came first. Then the research, the planning, the patience. And now — they’re here. The bees have arrived and are settling in at Hartzell House.

He got his first sting already. Suits are being sorted. And watching him move toward something he’s always wanted — it’s a good thing to witness.

We’ll be sharing the whole journey on Instagram and Facebook as it unfolds. Come follow along. It’s a good story in the making.

The Gap Trail

When the day allows, Robert is out on the trail — ebike loaded, rod in hand, heading toward the water. We’re getting busier which is a good problem to have, but the trail is always calling.

The trail is shaded and quiet, broken up by spots of sunlight filtering through the trees. You ride alongside the river, through the forest, and somewhere along the way you remember what it feels like to just be somewhere.

We prefer ebikes and if you don’t have one, you can rent them right at Confluence Cyclery. It’s the perfect way to take it all in.

We’ve been looking back at some of our favorite moments out there and we’re already looking forward to getting back out again. Follow us on Instagram to see them — and come find us there for more of what’s happening at the house this summer.

If you haven’t done it, it belongs on your list.

What’s Growing

The garden is in.

Tomatoes. Cucumbers. Zucchini, Eggplants, Peppers . All the things we hope to be harvesting and cooking with by August. There’s something about planting something and watching it come in that never gets old.

The chickens are still generous. Fresh eggs, every morning, without fail.

And the ginger syrup — we’re still making it. If you’ve had it here, you know. If you haven’t, that’s reason enough to come.

Dinner at Hartzell House

This one has quietly become something we didn’t fully anticipate.

We started offering dinners and people have loved them. Some guests dress up. Some don’t. There’s a candle on the table, good food, and when the weather is right — we’re moving outside.

It’s intimate if you want it to be. Easy and relaxed if that’s more your speed. We just make it beautiful and let you find your way into the evening.

Because of how much people are enjoying it, we’d love to do it every night. But for now we’re keeping it to a few evenings a week so we can give it the attention it deserves.

One important note: dinner evenings vary week to week. If you’re planning to come for a stay and dinner, please reach out before you book so we can make sure the timing works. We don’t want you to miss it.

Gather Here

We’ve also been loving something else this season – taking care of groups.

People coming together. Celebrating. Marking something that matters.

Birthdays. Weddings. Family weekends. Retreats. Whatever brings your people to the same room at the same time — we know how to hold that well.

There’s something that happens when a group settles into this place. The pace slows. The meals linger. People remember why they came.

If you’ve been thinking about gathering your people somewhere meaningful — we’d love to talk about what that could look like here.
