Hartzell House is a handsome example of Carpenter Gothic Victorian architecture, comfortably appointed with furnishings designed to pamper the discerning guest. Built c1870 by Judson Hartzell, the original structure has been carefully renovated to retain the flavor of the era while enhancing your measure of environmental comfort. The East Wing, built in 2005, has a distinct flair of its own. While blending quite nicely with the original 1870 structure, it gives a nod to the Craftsman era with its Bungalow inspired interiors.
The main level common area houses built in bookcases filled with a variety of reading material and DVDs. The furniture has a masculine vibe; a roomy leather sofa and chair, two cozy armchairs that flank the gas fireplace, a large satellite TV, and a tall, pub-style table that waits to accommodate a spirited game of skill or chance. On this level you will find a small kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator, and microwave for guest convenience, and cupboards stocked with hot and cold beverages and snacks.
The new east-wing is home to three roomy guest suites, all with memory foam mattresses, full, private baths, and en suite seating areas. These comfortable rooms are fully equipped with amenities designed to delight the discriminating traveler. Our main-floor Patriot™ Suite is quite large and fully handicap accessible, with a spacious, barrier free shower. Upstairs, the Artist™ and Angler™ suites share an ample landing where snack baskets offer midnight munchies. Both of these spacious rooms have small refrigerators and individual heating and cooling controls. Please see our "Rooms and Rates" page for details.
The east wing connects to the greatroom through our airy sunroom ( a winter jungle, as we shelter our potted plants and an eleven foot tall Ficus tree here during the ski-season)
The Hartzell House greatroom is the hub of activity for the B&B. This 33 x 20 room houses our beautiful pool table and on the side adjoining our kitchen can accommodate seating for 20. Here we serve our two-course, made to order, gourmet breakfasts each morning and enjoy the company of those guests who want to chat while we prep meals, engage in a game of pool, watch a bit of sports or a current movie, or just mingle over a complimentary glass of wine or cup of tea. This room is an excellent small venue facility for intimate receptions, celebrations, or reunions, when Hartzell House is booked in its entirety. Ask us about catering your next small event!
Hartzell House Bed and Breakfast is dedicating the 2012 year to completing our exterior face-lift, and hope to have the landscaping and outdoor rooms completed by the Spring of 2013. Come see our progress, and ask about our working vacation deals. If you know your way around a shovel, rake, or hammer, we have a place for you!
